DAY 1

MORNING PRAYER

Today we remember St. Marguerite, the first Canadian-born saint. She was born in Quebec in 1701 to a very poor family. After being married for only a few years, her husband died and left a large debt to be repaid. She was left alone with two young children and no way to support herself.  After working really hard, she made a living for her family, but vowed to help others who might find themselves in similar hard times.  With a few others, they started the Grey Nuns which provided support for poor women and children.

God of mercy,
who led St. Marguerite to devote herself to assist the needy,
help us also to share her love of the poor
and inspire us to work to help those in need.
Help us in our own time of need to be patient,
and to grow in faith as she did.
Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
