We are called to love as people of mercy. “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36) As we continue to journey through the Easter Season, let us reflect on the words of Pope Francis in his 2013 Easter message. Pope Francis stated: “Let us accept the grace of Christ’s resurrection! Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of His love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish.” 

God of mercy and love, 
You have blessed us with goodness and compassion. 
Inspire us to live out Your call to speak and act as people of mercy. 
Help us to treat each other with kindness. 
Teach us to be patient and forgiving. 
Guide us to love as You love; to be merciful as You are merciful. 
Make our school a place of warmth, safety, and welcome,

GENERAL PROFICIENCY: Grade 9, Grade 10, Grade 11 

The Grade 9 – 11 General Proficiency Award is a non-monetary award given to a student in grade 9, grade 10, and grade 11. It recognizes the student’s contribution to the whole life of St. Mary High School and is based on the following criteria: academic achievement 50%, extra-curricular contributions 40%, and religious life contributions 10%. Grade 9 - 11 General Proficiency Award Application The deadline to apply is Thursday, May 9^th.

JOHN M. CUELENAERE PUBLIC LIBRARY SCHOLARSHIP
The John M. Cuelenaere Public Library Scholarship of $250 is a recognition of a Grade 9 – 12 student who has been enrolled full-time in the academic year of 2023-2024. Candidates are students who have distinguished themselves by being an advocate for literacy in their school or the community and clearly demonstrate a love of reading. While high academics is not a requirement for applying, the student must have a Prince Albert Public Library (PAPL) card and plans for post-secondary education. Preference will also be given to former or current employees of John M. Cuelenaere Library, as well as a current Grade 12 student of École St. Mary High School. John M. ROTARY CITIZENSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
The Rotary Citizenship Scholarship of $400.00 is a recognition of a Grade 11 or 12 student that exhibits the characteristics of strong citizenship. It is modeled after the Rotary Adventure in Citizenship program with criteria that includes, strong academics, with strong character within the school environment, as well as the community. Candidates are students that respect and deal fairly with their fellow students, as well as participate in school and non-school activities that enhance their lives and the lives of those around them. The students should be planning some type of post-secondary education or training to enhance their personal skills. Rotary Citizenship Scholarship Application The deadline to apply is Thursday, May 9^th.

MAJOR/MINOR SPORTS AWARD
The Major/Minor Sports awards are presented to grade 12 students that have showcased a significant involvement with athletics during their time at École St. Mary High School. If you are in grade 12, you may be eligible for a Major/Minor Sports Award that will be presented during the ‘Thanksgiving for the School Year Celebration and Awards Assembly’. SUPPORT MENSTRUAL EQUITY INITIATIVE: Free Products

École St Mary High School has received free feminine menstrual products (pads and tampons) to support our students. Students who want these free products can go to the main office or see Mrs. Cantin in Room 115.  The initiative is a three-year partnership (Ministry of Education, the Status of Women Office, SaskBuilds, school division) created to distribute products in a cost-effective equitable and accessible manner. The initiative was established between the Ministry of Education and the Shoppers Foundation of Women's Health to provide 12 million menstrual products.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT SPRING CONCERT
The École St. Mary High School Music Department Spring Concert will be Thursday, May 23^rd at 7:00 PM in the Lecture Theatre of École St. Mary High School. The evening will include performances by the St. Mary Senior Band, Junior Band, and Choir. All are welcome! Admission by donation. 

SASKATCHEWAN REGIONAL PARK PASS LENDING PROGRAM

Another great reason to get a public library card: This year, the Regional Park Pass Lending Program will run from Friday, May 17^th to Sunday, September 15^th. During this time, anyone with a valid Saskatchewan public library card, or university library card, can borrow a regional park pass at their local library for seven days and use it to visit any of Saskatchewan's nearly 100 regional parks! MADD CANADA BURSARY PROGRAM: $10,000

MADD Canada is a national charitable organization committed to stopping impaired driving and supporting victims. One bursary of $10,000 (The Louise Joanne Twerdy Leadership Bursary) will be awarded and additional bursaries in the amount of $5,000 may also be awarded. MADD Canada’s Bursary Program is open to Canadian citizens who have themselves been severely injured or who have had a parent (or legal guardian) or sibling killed or severely injured, as a result of an impaired driving crash. The applicant must also be enrolled in a full-time, ministry-approved, post-secondary educational program for the upcoming academic year. The application deadline is Friday, May 31^st. OPENING DOORS TO TOMORROW CAREER & JOB FAIR BURSARY

The Opening Door to Tomorrow Career and Job Fair bursary is open to students (Saskatchewan Rivers, Prince Albert Catholic, Saskatchewan Polytech) and employees (Saskatchewan Health Authority, Prince Albert Community Futures, City of Prince Albert). Applicants must be accepted to attend a post-secondary education institution, including apprenticeship. Applications will be accepted until midnight on Wednesday, May 15^th. CASSIDY GRIMM MEMORIAL BURSARY: Education

This $500 bursary is awarded in June of each year to one recipient. Applicants need to be a Saskatchewan resident accepted into, or already attending, a post-secondary school in Saskatchewan, for the purpose of achieving a Bachelor of Education Degree. Additional information is available here. To qualify for this bursary, you must submit:

• a brief essay describing why you are going into Education and you’re your passion for teaching focuses on;
• a brief biography describing who you are and what makes you, you;
• a short explanation as to why you are applying for this particular bursary
• and, in brief, your financial need.

Applications are accepted February 1 - May 15 each year.  Please include your name, age, contact information, and proof of enrollment, as well as 2 letters of reference.

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION:

Jack Moore Memorial Scholarship/Burgess Bursary

Saskatchewan Command is offering 10 Scholarships and 10 Bursaries of $500 each. Students may apply for a Scholarship, a Bursary, or both. Scholarships and Bursaries are awarded based on Grade 12 academic performance using the Transcript of Secondary Level Achievement (Gr. 12 departmental marks). In addition, Bursaries are awarded based on financial need. Details about selection criteria, as well as an application form are available here The deadline to apply is August 15^th.

SSBA AWARD: 2 x $3,000

Each year, the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA) awards two $3,000 scholarships to graduating Saskatchewan high school students going into post-secondary study: the Degree Program Scholarship (sponsored by AON) and the Technical/Trade Program Scholarship (sponsored by Manulife). Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of demonstrated good character, community leadership, financial need, and a 500-word essay. The application deadline is August 31^st, 2024. DRIVER EDUCATION 2023 - 2024

Students who are interested in the 2023 - 2024 driver education program are to register online through Microsoft Forms: 2023 - 2024 Drivers Ed Registration Form Mr. Bourdon will then place students into groups on Edsby. A reminder that spots fill up quickly, so it is important to select your three top options to best accommodate each student. 

The start dates for session are as follows:

March 4 - March 25 (after school)

March 4 - April 24 (lunch hour)

April 8 - April 26 (after school)

May 1 - May 23 (after school)

July 2 - July 10 summer class (9:00am - 1:00pm)

Please note the following:

·         Students must be 15 years old by the start of the session.

·         Sessions will be in the Room 246.

·         All sessions begin at 3:30pm and end at 5:30pm. (except for the summer/lunch sessions).

·         During your driver education class, you will need:

·         your birth certificate

·         your MYSGI account number. (needed on the first day of class)

·         Students must go to SGI to get their MySGI customer number.

·         a pencil/pen and notebook

KARATE CLASSES

If yes, Prince Albert Budokai Karate is hosting its classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1405 Bishop Pascal Place (Elevation Academy Gym - Former Rivier).
