The event will be on the U of S campus on Friday, November 15th from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. Students will learn what an engineer does, why engineering is about more than math and science, and why employers want to hire USask engineers. As well, students will experience hands-on activities; discussions with engineering students, current engineers, and our professors; a building tour; and a sample engineering lecture from an award-winning professor. Guidance counsellors, parents, and other advisors are invited to attend a special question-and-answer session to learn more about USask Engineering. U of S EARLY ADMISSIONS
Students applying to earn a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience are encouraged to apply by December 1st, 2019 for early admission for the 2020 Fall Term in September. Students must submit transcripts and supporting documents by December 1 for early admission.
U of S SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS
Students entering the U of S are eligible for numerous scholarships and awards. Students can see Mrs. Rapin in Student Services if they have any questions.
1) Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships – Students will be considered for a Guaranteed Entrance Scholarship when they apply for admissions. These scholarships recognize academic achievements and are awarded based on the calculated admission average.
2) Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships – (Apply for admissions by Dec 1 & Apply for awards by Dec 15) These include USask’s highest valued, renewable entrance scholarships and are awarded based on academics, leadership and contributions to school and community life. These scholarships require the submission of a separate awards application after students apply for admissions.
3) Competitive Entrance Awards – (Apply for admissions by Feb 15 & Apply for awards by March 1) These include numerous scholarships and bursaries that can be accessed by many students with diverse experiences. Applicants can be considered based on academic achievement, financial need and/or contributions to school and community life. All entering students are encouraged to apply.
Regina Geotechnical Group invites K-12 students to participate in the “Soil Rocks” video competition to win $250 and $500 in prizes. Videos must be under five minutes and relate to the field of geotechnical (soil and rock) engineering. Geotechnical engineers study how soil and rocks behave and optimize design and construction of foundation systems to address natural challenges (like permafrost, ground variability, groundwater, earthquakes, landslides, flooding, and erosion) and man-made challenges (like infrastructure, fluid storage, and contaminants). Learn more about geotechnical engineering at www.whatisgeotech.org. Students must register by October 31, 2019 and submit a YouTube video link by January 31, 2019. All videos must be in English. The “dirt” on this challenge can be “dug up” at www.GeoCelebration.com.
Students in Grade 5-12 are encouraged to enter by writing an essay of 300 words or less about someone they think made the biggest impact on Canadian society in 2019. Prizes are awarded in two grade levels: Grade 5 - Grade 8 and Grade 9 - Grade 12. Two winners ($3000, $2000) will be selected for each level with the classroom of the teacher also receiving a $1000 cash prize. The contest begins September 17, 2019 and ends December 31, 2019.
