DAY 1

MORNING PRAYER
Dorothy Day
Dorothy Day was born in 1897 in the United States. She did not grow up religious and rejected it in college because she did not see religious people helping the poor. She was heavily involved in social justice. In 1917, she went to jail for protesting in support of women's right to vote. Dorothy Day was a spiritual woman and was soul searching. After the birth of her child, Tamar, in 1926, she longed for something more than private spiritually. In 1928, she decided to join the catholic church. In 1933, she started the Catholic Worker newspaper, along with another social activist. Dorothy Day was a devoted catholic and a tireless worker for social change. She even made a trip to India to visit Mother Theresa and her Sisters. Dorothy Day’s cause for canonization (becoming a saint) is currently ongoing.

Lord our God, your Son made it His mission to reach out to the poor, the sick and the vulnerable; help us, like Dorothy Day, to work for justice by working to erase poverty. Amen
